Justin T. Banford represents businesses and business owners. Throughout his career he has focused on helping entrepreneurs and executives effectively grow and develop their companies. He guides his clients through all stages of the business life cycle. On formation Mr. Banford provides seasoned guidance on proper corporate, tax, and management/governance structures; often working with clients’ tax professionals, venture capital, institutional lending, and other capital sources, as well as individual founders and their respective counsel. For growing companies Mr. Banford works closely with executives and governance boards to put in place scalable service agreements, employee incentive programs including equity plans, manage investor and management relations, and foster continued growth, including mergers and acquisition. Finally, Mr. Banford advises on succession planning for founders and key executives and preparing company operations in advance of sale, and all attendant transactional work. His clients reflect a cross section of the DC economy with many clients in the technology, government contracting, and other professional services spaces.
In all facets of his work with clients, Mr. Banford maintains a results-oriented approach. He is able to draw upon broad-based legal and financial knowledge in application to business law issues. In working with business executives of similar mindset, Mr. Banford strives to provide concise, complete, and easy to understand and execute guidance, but with the resources to dive deep. Mr. Banford prides himself on offering prospective guidance, planning for tomorrow’s issues today. In this regard, he advises on issues attendant to pure corporate planning such as taxes and asset protection.
Mr. Banford developed his estate planning practice as an offshoot of his corporate work, initially helping entrepreneurs, executives, and high net worth families with estate taxes issues, legacy planning, asset protection, and charitable giving. He enjoys this work as it calls upon and rewards the same principles as his corporate planning. Although estate tax concerns only affect very few of us, Mr. Banford’s estate planning work addresses the universal concerns of planning for one’s family, probate avoidance, and incapacity planning. He is glad to help you and your family in preparing your will, living trust, powers of attorney, and other testamentary documents. Recognizing that this planning can be difficult and, although important, is often set aside, he takes the same logical and results-oriented approach to estate planning as he does to his corporate work.
Blessed with a son and a daughter, Mr. Banford and his wife live in Fairfax Station, VA. He is active in their Montessori school and coaching his kids’ athletic teams.
