Biography

Thomas Hayes is a Patent Agent at Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig. Raised in a small west Texas town named Burkburnett (Boomtown), TX, he attended Texas Tech University receiving a B.S.E.E. (Class of 97). He started a career as an engineer in wireless and network telecommunications with Nokia Networks (Irving, TX) and Nokia Mobile Phones (San Diego, CA) shortly after receiving his B.S.E.E. He studied for and passed the patent bar (Reg. 45688) in 2000.

From 2000 to 2003, Thomas worked as a patent agent procuring invention disclosures from Nokia R&D efforts and managed a patent committee comprising distinguished company... engineers and business leaders. He prepared, filed, and prosecuted patent applications and managed a portfolio of thousands of U.S. and foreign patents and patent applications covering GSM and CDMA wireless technology and supporting network infrastructure technology. From 2003 to 2008, he worked for Research in Motion (RIM – Blackberry) as a patent agent in the licensing and standards division managing a portfolio of 3G essential standard software and hardware-related patent applications, supporting licensing and litigation efforts.

Thomas then worked as an innovations engineer inventing new technology for SoftCard (acquired by Google) and Wells Fargo resulting in approximately 20 original patent application filings from 2008 to 2013. Since then, he has worked for various law firms, Kelly & Krause, Jackson Walker, McGuireWoods, Baker Botts, and Dunlap, Bennett & Ludwig as a patent agent filing and prosecuting patent applications covering a broad range of hardware and software-related patent applications, including but not limited to AI/ML, cryptography, blockchain, and cloud computing.

Outside of work, Thomas enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, and having a good nightlife.

As part of our effort to recruit, develop and retail the best and brightest attorneys, Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig offers a summer intern program for promising law school students who are looking to work as part of an innovative and incredibly successful team. With a global team of lawyers, selected candidates are able to work on high level projects in a collaborative space.

Paralegals and Legal Support Staff

At Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig, our team of paralegals and staff work together collaboratively along side our attorneys toward a common goal. We have created a positive work environment where our paralegals and legal assistants work to successfully reach firm-wide goals and support each other to combine individual strengths to enhance team performance. They regularly assist our attorneys with organizing and maintaining files, conducting legal research, and preparing documents.
