Overview

Strategic legal counsel for a connected world

The telecommunications industry is transforming at an unprecedented pace. Emerging technologies such as 5G, satellite broadband, private wireless networks, IoT infrastructure, and edge computing are redefining how people connect, how businesses operate, and how data moves around the globe. At the same time, telecom companies must navigate complex legal and operational pressures, from national security concerns to SIM-swapping attacks, insider threats, and aging infrastructure.

At Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig, we help telecommunications clients build resilient operations while navigating the intersection of connectivity, compliance, and cybersecurity. We counsel carriers, service providers, tower operators, and emerging tech platforms on risk governance, regulatory strategy, IP enforcement, and incident response. We also bring deep experience in the evolving intersection of telecom with adjacent sectors — including cybersecurity, cloud services, mobility, energy, and national defense — giving us a broad view of your risks, dependencies, and opportunities. We understand the nuanced conflicts telecom providers face between data privacy, supply chain security, and lawful interception obligations under the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA). Our team helps clients bridge these tensions while maintaining consumer trust, national security alignment, and regulatory compliance.

Our approach is practical and business-minded. We don’t just know the law. We understand your technology, market position, and long-term goals. Our telecommunications legal team is here to help you succeed in a connected world, whether you’re launching a new service, responding to regulatory scrutiny, or negotiating a high-stakes transaction.

Our experience in the telecommunications industry

Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig brings decades of multidisciplinary experience to clients operating across the telecommunications landscape. Our telecommunications attorneys have advised on everything from spectrum acquisition and fiber buildouts to interconnection disputes, compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules, and M&A transactions. We understand the legal, operational, and technical challenges that telecom providers face and help clients navigate them.

Our experience spans the lifecycle of telecom operations, from company formation and financing to licensing, regulatory approval, IP portfolio strategy, and litigation defense. We regularly represent clients in FCC and state PUC proceedings, and we help manage legal risks related to lawful interception, network security, roaming, CALEA compliance, and customer proprietary network information (CPNI) data protection.

We also advise on global data governance frameworks, vendor risk management, and NIST/ISO-aligned cybersecurity controls. For example, our IP litigators have represented telecom clients in disputes involving patent infringement related to protocol-shifting technologies and core communications infrastructure.
