Overview

Fostering the growth of budding businesses

As more states legalize cannabis, license businesses, and regulate products, murky legal issues remain. Businesses must determine how to navigate the questions that arise in the space between federal prohibition under the Controlled Substances Act and state legalization. These questions concern how cannabis businesses interact with the government, other companies, their customers, and stakeholders.

The cannabis team at Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig has been on the forefront of this uncharted and rapidly developing area of the law, as it helps clients navigate the thorny legal issues in the cannabis industry. Sound legal representation requires law firms to understand and appreciate not only existing laws and regulations but also to anticipate what the future holds. Our law firm blends its legal and operational expertise to help clients in the cannabis and cannabidiol (CBD) industries address emerging concerns and plan for what’s next.

Our experience in the cannabis industry

Having been one of the first law firms to represent cannabis clients in Virginia, Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig is uniquely qualified and experienced to represent cannabis and hemp cultivators, extractors, processors, dispensaries, retailers, licensees, and investors. We help cannabis businesses with transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions and securities, but we also work with them on licensing, intellectual property issues, compliance, and litigation.

Our multidisciplinary team helps businesses understand the emerging complexities of the cannabis industry, including complicated rules and regulations that stem from federal prohibition. We show them how to address challenges involving the Controlled Substance Act, Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, and Bank Secrecy Act.
