Biography

John C. (Jace) Holman is a Partner at the Washington DC office of Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig. He has prepared, filed, and prosecuted thousands of patent and trademark applications (and their equivalents) in the United States and internationally, and is highly experienced with the bilateral and multilateral treaties, including the Patent Cooperation Treaty and the European Community Trademark. He has spent a significant portion of his intellectual property career advising individual clients, government clients, and small-to-large sized corporate clients, including startups, in all phases of intellectual property, including... technology transfer and licensing, trademark registration, and conflict settlement.

He represented the National Institute of Health for decades, managing the foreign patent filing of the NIH cases via the National Technical Information
Service for many years. His extensive experience with trademarks includes long-term clients such as Gucci and Fidelity Investments, which he also has
represented for decades.

Prior to law school, Jace Holman studied material engineering technology and completed an MBA, attaining a broad depth of scientific and business
knowledge that complements his intellectual property practice. He began his career in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner. At
the USPTO, he spent four years examining chemical and metallurgical methods, composition of matter, and apparatuses. He then spent several years in London, England as an American intellectual property expert with one of the world’s largest intellectual property firms. During his time in London, he traveled extensively in Europe and beyond, acting as a liaison between international practice and U.S. practice.

Jace Holman also attended the Holborn College of Law in Intellectual Property and received a certificate from the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents. Upon returning to Washington DC, he formed his own practice and led the firm for decades before merging with Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig in 2025.

Outside of his legal practice, Jace Holman enjoys restoring vehicles, and is an owner and builder of industrial warehousing.
