Biography

Daniel serves as outside trademark counsel to a wide range of clients—from small family-owned businesses and cutting-edge tech startups to global brands with international trademark portfolios and U.S. government agencies.   

Clients appreciate Daniel’s “big picture” view of trademark law. Daniel has assisted with filing hundreds of trademark applications, helped clients detect and remove online infringement of their marks, and represented... brand owners in trademark disputes and litigation, including proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Many of his clients are global brands, so Daniel has also assisted with trademark applications, disputes, and other international trademark matters in dozens of countries outside the United States.  

Beyond trademarks, Daniel advises clients in a variety of legal situations, including aspects of copyright protection, Internet law (such as UDRP and website domain name disputes), data privacy law, business law, and contracts. 

Experience

  • Assisted a U.S. government agency with removing counterfeit safety products from domestic and international e-commerce platforms.  
  • Helped defend the trademark application of a U.S. government agency in an appeal before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.  
  • Represented a small business client in trademark negotiations with a multi-billion-dollar manufacturer. Obtained a favorable settlement for our client.  
  • Assisted a global chemical company with IP strategy and obtaining international trademark protection.  
  • Represented an online business in a successful effort to recover their website’s domain name from an extortionist using the UDRP complaint procedure.  
  • Acted as outside IP counsel in a successful negotiation with one of the ten biggest tech companies in the world that cleared the way for our small business client to register its trademark.

  • National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Bullard-Sherwood Research to Practice (r2p) Award for Intervention—Daniel was privileged to be part of a team recognized for protecting the federal government’s N95® and other NIOSH certification trademarks during and after the COVID-19 pandemic
