Biography

Gerald LeMelle is a Partner at Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig and has more than 30 years of experience in immigration law. He helps corporations, finance professionals, investors, and startups achieve their corporate and financial goals by investing money or investing in talent here in the United States. He specializes in investor and employment-based visas such as L-I and H1-b, E-2, and EB-5 visas.

Gerald was raised in Africa and Europe, so he fully understands the challenges facing foreign nationals in this country. Gerald began his career as an attorney for the largest international visitor program in the United States. Soon, he became a leading advocate for immigration reform and human rights while serving as Deputy Executive Director of Amnesty International from 1995-2007 and Executive Director of Africa Action, the former U.S. Committee on Africa from 2007-2010. His work has appeared in numerous newspapers, magazines, and professional journals; He was also a regular on CNN, CNN International, C-Span, Voice of America, Al-Jazeera, and the BBC, as well as scores of local television and radio broadcasts across the country.

He now brings his passion, determination, and unique insights to Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig and to our clients. Taken with the entrepreneurial spirit at Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig, he enjoys combining his advocacy for immigrants’ rights, experience with immigration law, and the talent at the firm to provide a full array of corporate, financial, and family services to clients.

Gerald teaches a course on Immigration Law for the Virginia Bar’s Continuing Legal Education Program. He earned his B.A, at Wesleyan University and his J.D. at the Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the New York Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Intern Program

As part of our effort to recruit, develop and retail the best and brightest attorneys, Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig offers a summer intern program for promising law school students who are looking to work as part of an innovative and incredibly successful team. With a global team of lawyers, selected candidates are able to work on high level projects in a collaborative space.

Paralegals and Legal Support Staff

At Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig, our team of paralegals and staff work together collaboratively along side our attorneys toward a common goal. We have created a positive work environment where our paralegals and legal assistants work to successfully reach firm-wide goals and support each other to combine individual strengths to enhance team performance. They regularly assist our attorneys with organizing and maintaining files, conducting legal research, and preparing documents.
